The UAE's Technology Innovation Institute (TII) launched Falcon as an early open-weights pioneer in 2023 with Falcon 40B and 180B. Falcon Mamba 7B (August 2024) was the first major open-weights state-space model — a meaningful architectural departure with linear-time decoding and no KV cache.
Falcon 3 (December 2024) is the current dense flagship at 7B and larger sizes. The TII Falcon licence permits royalty-free commercial use with attribution.
